Brochure Design & Print
A brochure (also referred to as a pamphlet) is a type of leaflet.
Brochures are most commonly found at places that tourists frequently visit, such as museums, major shops, and tourist information. Brochure racks or stands may suggest visits to amusement parks and other points of interest. Another type of brochure is interpersonal brochures, which are brochures based on other people. Then there are pamphlets that you can find in health clinics and hospitals, that give help and advice to do with your health.
The most common types of single-sheet brochures are the bi-fold (a single sheet printed on both sides and folded into halves) and the tri-fold (the same, but folded into thirds). A bi-fold brochure results in four panels (two panels on each side), while a tri-fold results in six panels (three panels on each side).
Other folder arrangements are possible: the accordion or "Z-fold" method, the "C-fold" method, etc. Larger sheets, such as those with detailed maps or expansive photo spreads, are folded into four, five, or six panels.
Booklet brochures are made of multiple sheets most often saddle stitched (stapled on the creased edge) or "perfect bound" like a paperback book, and result in eight panels or more.
Brochures are often printed using four color process on thick gloss paper to give an initial impression of quality. Businesses may turn out small quantities of brochures on a computer printer or on a digital printer, but offset printing turns out higher quantities for less cost.
Compared with a flyer or a handbill, a brochure usually uses higher-quality paper, more color, and is folded.

The Single Leaflet usually measures one third of an A4 page, ei. 99 mm in width x 210 mm in height.
Average cost for printing an A4 sheet (so 3 flyers in facts) is
- 500 = US 160.00
- 2000 = USD 250.00
- 3000 = USD 300.00
So for $ 300 you get: 9000 flyers ! You can actually get 3 different flyers for that price (perhaps one in every language) or three types of promotion, as recently done for La P''tite France Bistro in Phnom Penh |
Digital Printing
In the past 3 years, two companies have attempted to introduce Digital Printers to the Kingdom. Their success was all relative, and today they have pretty much halted the business. The main reasons are :
- Offset printing companies accept lowquantity printing ( I had ran 80 flyers at one point), compared to their western counterparts
- the cost of offset printing is so very interestingly competitive, mainly because expenses (labor, rent) are affordable
Offset printing
There are about 50 printing house in Phnom Penh alone. From major players with state-of-the-art equipment to street-level family ran boutiques with 2x2-color process
Most of them work on a 6-day week, and during emergencies they can work overnight and sundays...
Only a few companies provide color proofs for approval, it is best to work with Pantones or to sit by the machine for more insurance. They also rarely schedule the machine, so it is always a challenge to get a real precise deadline, most of the time you will get a "ok maybe next Monday" which means between monday and wednesday.
Loyalty is probably your best credential, I have worked with the same printing house for more than 8 years and my relationship is very close, so when a project is not good, they will in most cases reprint for me, free of charge...So in return, I can garantee most of the projects.
